The Jump Up

I started work on this oil on wood painting as I travelled around in outback Queensland. The vast horizons and intense colours were so impactful. But the lackadaisical stares from the wildlife as you passed by stood out to me, they knew we were not from the bush.

A Jump- up is a land formation in the Australian Outback where the rock is harder than the surrounding area and over time sits up higher due to erosion. Some of our Australian animals seem like there are as old as time and will always be around, but what is of least concern today may be endangered in the future.
